Caring for Carcinoid Foundation - Run for Hope

Run for Hope

The Caring for Carcinoid Foundation (CFCF) proudly supports the annual Run for Hope hosted by Jeanne Lambert.

Introduction

Source:  Run for Hope

The Run for Hope is hosted annually by Jeanne Lambert to raise funds for carcinoid awareness and research.

On May 18, 2004, Jeanne was diagnosed with stage IV carcinoid cancer.  Jeanne says the moment she was diagnosed, she knew it was a pivotal point in her life.

In 2005, Jeanne inaugurated the Run for Hope.  She was told not to expect more than 50 participants.  Instead, Jeanne raised $15,000 and attracted 420 participants!  Jeanne also received a signed proclamation from the Governor of Colorado acknowledging her extraordinary efforts.

Memorial Dedication by Jeanne Lambert

Lee Curtis with Jeanne Lambert

"The 2008 Run for Hope 5K is dedicated in honor and memory of Lee Curtis (our #1 registrant from our first 5K, committee member, brother, husband and friend to all).  Lee was unable to attend this past race due to his end of life struggle with carcinoid cancer.  Pictured above are Lee and I the afternoon of the 5K event, August 11th, 2007.  It was clear to me our earthly hellos and goodbyes were imminent.  Needless to say, that afternoon was a difficult and tearful time - not just that day, but for the next ten days when it was time to say our forever goodbye.  Lee died of complications from carcinoid cancer on August 21st, 2007.

The good news is, one blessed day, we will say hello again and he will be so proud of all for our continual effort as each 5K event will be equal to a pebble thrown into the ocean and finally a wave will result…then as with HOPE comes REALITY, Cancer will be NO MORE!  It will not have been in vain but truly a completed “RUN for HOPE”!"

Winston Churchill (1871-1965):  "Success is not final, failure is not final.  It is the courage to continue that counts."

2006 Run for Hope

The 2006 Run for Hope took place on August 12, 2006 in Fort Collins, Colorado.  This event was organized by Jeanne Lambert with her family and friends.  Once again, the Run for Hope proved a major success due to the tireless efforts of Jeanne and many volunteers.

In addition, Jeanne succeeded in having August proclaimed "Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Month" by the State of Colorado and City of Fort Collins.  An excerpt from the Fort Collins proclamation:

"Whereas, the Second Annual Run for Hope 5K will be held on August 12, 2006 to raise support for the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation and the Poudre Valley Cancer Treatment and Research Center;

Now, therefore, I, Doug Hutchinson, Mayor of Fort Collins, do hereby proclaim August 2006 as Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Month and encourage the citizens of Fort Collins to become aware of this devastating disease and to participate in support for research to find a cure."
