Cancer type (NET):
Carcinoid
Diagnosis Year:
2009
How I survive cancer:
Working and Walking. Waking after a good night's sleep. Laughing at Wacky jokes. Waltzing around the house. Playing Waltzes on the piano. Wagging my tail. I'm fortunate that my career is software development, so I can work from home and be as productive as I was before. This is an unexpected gift, as working keeps me happy.
How I fight for a cure:
I find that everyone has a suggestion. For me, I try to listen to what my body tells me. And I thank everyone for their suggestions, as I know they mean well, and their well-meaning is indeed a gift. (We need to find a way to free this disease from being a source of profits for big pharmaceuticals.)
My caring words of encouragement:
We are many hands of a single tree. I am you and you are me. I live by the redwoods. A redwood tree alone has a poor prognosis. In forests, redwoods live for thousands of years because their roots mesh, and create a powerful ecosystem that no storm or fire can extinguish. I am grateful to Nancy and Lauren for their efforts in uniting those of us with this disease so that we become like redwoods.
