How I Survive Cancer

A routine colonoscopy 7/2/08 found a pea sized intestinal carcinoid tumor in the terminal ileum of my intestine(2 inches from where the colon starts). Surgery was done laperoscopy 8/20/08 to remove the tumor, along with 6 inches of colon & 6 inches of intestine. . .appendix came out too! 2/10 lymph nodes were positive for "microscopic traces of cancer". On 9/23/08 oncology said I was a stage-3 cancer with a 50-70% chance for recurrence, despite never having symptoms! Every 6 months (starts March '09) I will now get a blood test & CT x-ray with contrast the next 5 years to screen for cancer. A repeat colonoscopy & endoscope will be done in 3 years. I am now in the process of trying to identify the leading doctors in intestinal carcinoid tumor research/treatment/monitoring, for a second opinion regarding my screening program I'm about to start. My focus is on the 30-50% chance for being cured! All my doctors say its a miracle found it and so early!! Life is good. Jeff
